As part of our renewed commitment to regional NSW and the many conservatoriums that are connected to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, we are delighted to announce our Early Music Ensemble will be touring to the Blue Mountains, Bathurst and Orange in late October.
Professor Anna Reid, Dean, has been the driving force behind this regional commitment, setting up a ‘buddy’ program in 2013, with Associate Professor Jennifer Rowley, the ‘Richard Pulley Outreach and Regional Engagement Program’, to provide opportunities for our Conservatorium students to connect with music students in regional areas via the NSW Conservatoriums network.
Please join us in Bathurst for a lunchtime concert in the beautiful and historic St. Michael and St. John’s Cathedral, on the corner of Keppel and William Streets. We will be helping the Cathedral community celebrate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first Bishop (Matthew Quinn) and the first seven Mercy Sisters from Ireland. It also marks the beginning of a new Diocesan Pastoral Council being commissioned.
The Early Music Ensemble will perform a selection of works by Handel, Vivaldi, Geminiani and J.S. Bach, including some newly discovered works for recorder consort by Portugeuse Baroque composer Pedro de Arau’jo.
